  1. Nelson House

    26 Apr 2019

Nelson House, Rotherhithe (April 2019) Nelson House dates from the early 18th century and is London’s only surviving example of a type of Georgian property built for prosperous shipyard owners. This view, from within Russia Dock Woodland, is back far enough to better reveal the parapet roof and octagonal cupola. The house is heritage to Rotherhithe’s ship-building past and was listed in 1949.

  2. Great Arthur House

    27 Mar 2019

Great Arthur House, Golden Lane Estate (February 2019) Great Arthur House (1956) is the sixteen storey residential block on the Golden Lane Estate with distinctive yellow panels all of which were renewed during a refurbishment in 2014 to replace the curtain wall. The building is Grade II listed and a fine example of the early work of Chamberlin Powell and Bon who, after designing Golden Lane, went on to complete…

    07 Dec 2018

Gasholders, St Pancras Lock (May 2018) An image from the summer made while on several walks to the St Pancras Lock area in part visiting these iconic industrial structures which, remarkably,  are now luxury flats.  Gasholders elsewhere in London have either been removed or are under threat but here is preservation and a new purpose for heritage that…

Balfron Tower from the Aberfeldy Estate (April 2016) I made a series of photographs of the Balfron Tower in 2015/6 prior to the refurbishment that is currently underway.  This image, from the Aberfeldy Estate on the eastern side, shows the interlocking arrangement where the lift service tower is linked by walkways at…

  6. Paynes Wharf

    26 Oct 2017

Paynes Wharf, Deptford Creekside, (July 2010) Paynes Wharf dates from the mid-nineteenth century and had been Grade 2 listed and was awaiting development when I made this image in 2010. The Italianate style facade was held up by a steel frame and the sight of Canary Wharf across the Thames through the giant arched…

  7. Musicity London

    16 Aug 2017

Finnish Church, Rotherhithe (February 2017) The Finnish Church in Rotherhithe with its unusual, freestanding belfry is the first architectural stop on a photo walk that I am leading on September 10th as part of the Musicity Global weekend of events. More information here with a few places on the walk still available.
